About Me

Emma Fraser

I have loved horses all my life. Starting off at a summer camp in 1st grade, the moment I stepped foot into the barn I knew I was home. Something about being around these large animals brings me a sense of comfort and peace. When all else is going wrong or I feel like I cannot go on, horses have been the thing that pulls be out and gives me a safe space. I have been lucky enough to grow up riding and have the support to be competitive during my high school and college years.

My heart horse, McGraw (pictured), took me around the United States competing at the biggest shows and on the biggest stages in the equestrian world. For this project, I wanted to explore how horses have helped others and how they can be used to bring about feelings of happiness and understanding. Learning about therapeutic riding, equine assisted therapy and adaptive riding has given me even more appreciation for the sport, the people, the supporters and most importantly, the horses that make it possible. I want to ensure that as an able-bodied person, I work hard to write responsibly, with care, and with the utmost respect. If there is one thing I have learned, it is that there is something truly magical about the bond between the horse and the human.

I want to thank all the people, programs, horses and professors that made this project possible. Learning from you all has been not only insightful and educational, but getting to know each of you is something I will forever cherish. Thank you for your kindness and care. I cannot wait to keep learning!
